Pioneer Valley Ballet Choreographer
Barbie Diewald is a choreographer, performer, and dance educator. In addition to being Visiting Professor of Dance at Mount Holyoke College, Diewald creates dances within the framework of her performance project Barbie Diewald Choreography. She has previously taught at Keene State College and Smith College, where she was a Teaching Fellow and Gretchen Moran Scholar. Since 2015, she has been on Faculty at the Pioneer Valley Ballet, where she teaches Classical Ballet, Contemporary Ballet, and Repertoire.She was a resident artist at The Bogliasco Foundation (Italy), Ponderosa (Germany), The Putney School (VT), SILO at Kirkland Farm (PA), Cora Dance (NYC), and Chen Dance Center (NYC), and looks forward to a creative residency at the Iron Factory in Philadelphia this spring. Diewald’s choreography has been presented in New York City at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the 92nd Street Y, Dixon Place, The Center for Performance Research and Movement Research at the Judson Church. She has also performed throughout Western Massachusetts at Jacob’s Pillow, the APE Gallery, The Pittsfield Art Museum, and the School for Contemporary Dance & Thought. Diewald holds a BFA from Millikin University and MFA from Smith College.
